Glass is a traditional material for constructing aquariums. Glass maintains its clarity over time and is very difficult to scratch. However, glass is relatively rigid and brittle. Because of this, it is difficult to make fish tanks from glass that are not rectangular in shape. The one downfall is when glass is curved, it has a tendency to bend light, making things on the other side of the curved glass appear larger or smaller than they really are.

Long story short, if you are new to the hobby and do not want to worry about scratches, constant cleaning etc.… then a glass aquarium is the way to go. With proper care, a glass aquarium will outlast you! + It will save you some money.

However, if you are setting up a large tank and want something more out of the ordinary/ unusual shape or plan on modifying your tank then acrylic is the right choice for you!
